b4 + after : living room

To say this living room received a major overhaul is an understatement. Even with pictures it's hard to convey what was done, but here's a shot.

Irvine Living Room after
b4: looking east. As you look at the during and after pictures, use the fireplace as a point of reference. We removed this one but put a wood burning stove in nearly the same spot (just 4' back since we framed in the deck).

during: southeast.  Where the brown chair sits is about where the old fireplace was. Just behind the brown chair was the wall you see in the left of the b4 pic. The left of the TV is about where the exterior south wall used to be.   We put in a big 18" tall beam, which allowed us to remove 8 walls in the main living area.

during: looking east.  Media and stove wall in progress. The wood "bench" you see there will house wood underneath, serve as a seating spot near the stove and house electonics. Reclaimed flooring and white wood walls complete. Almost ready for the final reveal!

b4: staircase . Standing in the entry you'd look right and see the stairs. To the left was a door to the living room.  The living room was completely framed in as if it was a bedroom. We flipped the staircase around so that we could build an entry closet underneath it.

during staircase:  If you look closely you can see a washing machine.  The underside of the stairs used to house the washer and dryer (yes, IN THE LIVING ROOM!). The stairs are now flipped around and a much larger window is installed allowing more light into the room. Entry closet not yet started.

b4: exterior south wall shows how there was a 2-story wrap-around deck, which we framed in to be part of the living space both on the main level and upper level. The bottom level is a walk-out basement.

b4: exterior south. You can see we started squaring off the deck.

during: southeast.   2-story deck is now framed in, and the west deck, which was at an angle, is now squared off. This south wall faces the Mississippi River, which is why we wanted to go with a full wall of windows.
